I used to look up to LO. He’s a one-of-a-kind basketball talent, he used to be an all-star smoker, and he’s overcome tremendous personal tragedies. However, he lost me on his most recent antic – marrying Khloe Kardashian. It’s not just that I consider the Kardashians (as a family) to be talentless succubuses, but the fact that the “marriage” is such an annoyingly transparent publicity stunt irritates me to no end. I know the days of marriage being a sacred institution in the United States are long behind us, but please can we have at least some appearance of pretense?

Instead we get a wedding that is not even a legal marriage because the love-smitten couple has not yet worked out the details of their prenup and so have not signed a marriage contract.  Also, it turns out much of the wedding was literally scripted:

The wedding doesn’t seem so much “real” as really staged. Maybe we’re naive, but we’ve yet to attend a rehearsal dinner with line readings. In the tape, the producers decide that Kardashian will tell step-dad Bruce Jenner that she considers him her real dad before walking down the aisle.

The respective motives are clear: Odom has a new clothing line – Rockin’ Rich Soil Clothing – that he needs to promote; Kardashian has two horrible television shows that are in danger of being canceled. But this is just pathetic. Come on LO, you’re better than this!
