Today, we present our first Marijuana Media Watch and who better to start with than Stephen Colbert and The Colbert Report. The Colbert Report is a satirical news program that airs on Comedy Central at 11:30 PM on weeknights. Without any further ado, significant appearances of marijuana on The Colbert Report:
In the following clip, Mr. Colbert examines the contrasting state and federal laws on marijuana in places like California and illuminates the plight that many medical marijuana users face.
In the next clip, Colbert illuminates the absurdity of hemp prohibition.
Several times Mr. Colbert has interviewed Ethan Nadelmann, the director of the Drug Policy Alliance, a group whose goal is to end the war on drugs. As you can see, Colbert gives Nadelmann a hard time but gives him opportunities to get his talking points across.
Colbert even had Willie Nelson sing a song about marijuana on his Christmas special.
All in all, we would have to say that Mr. Colbert is very supportive of all types of marijuana issues: decriminalization, legalization, medical, and even hemp. He may give the guests a hard time, but he repeatedly offers them a comfortable, relaxed platform to get their views across to the viewing public. One cannot ask for much more.
